Joanne Stuart Planning Reform

The IoD recently made a submission to the consultation on Planning Reform. Over 80 questions were posed in the consultation and our submission endorsed many of the planning proposals designed to streamline the process and speed up decision-making. Less welcome, however, is the devolution of planning powers to the new ‘super-councils’ as proposed by the Review of Public Administration (RPA). The objective of the RPA was to replace multiple local bodies with more efficient regional organisations,… Continue

Economic conditions are still difficult for businesses and accessing finance remains an issue. But we are holding monthly meetings with lenders and will keep pressure on theContinue

Tim McKane Disruption - A Positive Way to Think

Now that I have left the advertising agency world (plug here - new business called Navajotalk getting up and running), I recommend the process that is used by the world wide agency group TBWA, which is called Disruption. Disruption is not negative, despite the way it sounds, it is a method of challenging conventions by rejecting the concept 'we've always done it that way'. It is a system that allows you see clearly that there are huge opportunities, no matter what sector you are in. Apple use it… Continue

Kevin Taylor Doing things differently Is this the way forward

As we see more job loses in my beloved wee province one wonders Where have we gone wrong ? Well in my opinion we have become so risk averse that we wont tell anyone one the time in case they sue us at a later date Government employs thousands off advisors and staff But what advise is given ? Benefits the radical solution As someone whom receives benefits due to multiple disabilities Why am i the only one that has no say in reform ? £48 million on completely useless work schemes is £48… Continue

Joanne Stuart ISNI Project Tracker Portal Up and Running

In June of this year, the Strategic Investment Board Delivery Tracking System (DTS) Portal went live. It was a 'soft' launch, so you may have missed it! This is something that the IoD, along with the other members of the Business Alliance, has been calling for to enable businesses to see what projects have been approved, and to track how the capital budget is being spent. The Portal provides information on the Northern Ireland Executive's 10-year infrastructure Investment Strategy (ISNI) 2008-… Continue

Allen Higginson Tall Ships

Weather aside (well, they do try to hold these sort of things in the Northern Ireland summer), what a great success and spectacle the Tall Ships were - great news that they are considering sailing back in the not too distant. However, there have been complaints of the prices being charged by the various food vendors on and around the event.Bear in mind that the stalls were £1000 per day around the actual event, with 600 to 800 for Custom House (depending if you wanted to stay open until 9PM) - that… Continue

Sam McIlveen how good are you

Found this interesting test it's a bit of fun but if you find yourself answering d all the time either you are doing it wrong or they are from Revolution In these difficult times, just how happy are you with your agency? Is your relationship a meeting of minds? Or does distrust linger on either side? Even if things tick along nicely for now, are you hopeful of where you're headed together, or wondering what else is out there? Don't let the economic crisis force you into stasis. Take Revoluti… Continue

Davy Sims Interview With Joanne Stuart about Social Media in Business

Belfast Telegraph today carries a short feature about NIcrunchtalk. With only 400 words available, I wasn't able to do justice Joanne Stuart's interview. So, below are both the article itself and the full interview with Joanne. The feature is only in the print edition and not online, although I'm also running it on my own blog davysims.com

If there was ever a need to argue that Social Media is not some sort of passing fashion for “young people” then look no further than the bu

Kevin Taylor Everyone must have a say

Is it too much to ask that everyone has a say in the recovery off our wee country . Where is the innovation needed to move us forward ? Where is the support for the service models designed by those whom want to make a difference ? Where is the new model off social security that would allow us to be part off the system not laying at home getting a handout every week ? I thought long and hard about posting this as i am sick and tired off others telling me what i need and how they will give it t… Continue
